Dear Cal State LA Community,
This May 1st, we call on all staff, faculty, and students to gather in solidarity for a May Day Rally from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Golden Eagle Statue.
May Day, also known as International Workers' Day, is celebrated on May 1. Across the world and throughout history, workers have fought for dignity, fair wages, safe working conditions, and justice — and that fight continues today. For more information about May Day, check out this article: https://irle.ucla.edu/2025/04/28/may-day-history-significance/.
Keep the promise, fund the CSU!
The state budget is still being negotiated, but the current proposal from Gov. Gavin Newsom calls for 7.95% cuts to CSU funding, and a deferral in "compact funding" for two years. The proposal jeopardizes both the state Legislature and the CSU’s commitment to implementing a salary steps structure for staff this year.
Join us as we lift our voices together with Cal State LA faculty, students, and all staff in support of workers' rights and equity in the face of CSU budget cuts to our campus and layoffs. Our presence shows that we are united, strong, and determined to stand up for our community.
Date: Thursday, May 1st
Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Location: Golden Eagle Statue (Main Walkway, between the bookstore and the University Library)
Wear: Your union shirt, or any red shirt.
Additionally, there are citywide May Day actions: Downtown LA, 9 AM at the corner of Figueroa/Olympic (CFA meet up spot is Fixins restaurant); MacArthur Park at 4:30 PM.
Let’s unite as one Cal State LA. We are Cal State LA.
In solidarity,
CFA-Los Angeles
