Faculty involvement for the Teamsters' strike next week

Dear Faculty,
As you may be aware, we want to inform you that our staff colleagues represented by Teamsters Local 2010 will be going on strike starting next week, 2/17-20. While faculty cannot engage in a sympathy strike, there are meaningful ways we can show our support during this time.
Ways to show support:
Public employees, including CFA members, have the individual right to honor another union’s strike and not cross a picket line. Faculty may not be paid for the time they are honoring the picket line. The CSU cannot retaliate against you for participating in protected union activities.
Wear red to campus to visibly show solidarity with our colleagues.

Coffee with our Teamsters, Today, Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Join us and our staff colleagues for a cup of coffee and an opportunity to ask questions about the contract dispute and the strike.
This is an important moment to unite together as a community and recognize the contributions of all staff members. Your support can make a significant difference to our staff colleagues, and helps build solidarity as we are bargaining our own faculty contract. The CSU says they can’t afford to make any meaningful offers to its workers despite a fully funded budget, and increases in enrollment across the state (CSU Transparency Portal).
At Cal State LA, union solidarity is a personal matter! We look forward to the first Wednesdays of the month, when all the campus unions table in front of the Golden Eagle statue. We do that to increase visibility and recruit new members–but also to share stories about our families, support each other’s struggles, and share critical information and resources. Teamsters are some of our most trusted colleagues on campus. At Cal State LA, we really are one big (pretty functional) union family!
