[Follow-up] Reporting time-off during strike
Dear faculty,
Today, CFA - Los Angeles received a response to our correspondence requesting details as to how faculty were identified as participants in the strike on 1/22/2024.
Faculty Affairs, AVP, responded with the following:
The email sent on 2/1 from the AVP was not sent to all faculty
Faculty who received the email on 2/1 were based on a combination of student reports, cancelation announcements, etc.
Faculty should enter the “dock” code to report strike participation
In response, we have asked the university to provide a list of faculty who received the email and extend the reporting deadline of February 9th that was imposed without consultation. We have not received a response back from the administration at this time regarding either. I will be sending an email with an update from Faculty Affairs (if any) tomorrow midday by 2PM; however, it is your choice how you choose to move forward.
As it was mentioned previously, you have the right to strike and management has the right to withhold pay for the time you are out. We encourage faculty to be honest in their responses to the email sent. If you worked on January 22nd, you will need to respond to the email. If you participated in the strike, no further action is needed on your part.
At this time, I would like to remind you about the chapter’s Solidarity Fund. If you are in need of any financial assistance as a result in participating in the strike, we invite you to apply to the Strike Fund: https://forms.gle/tjexQK4XMVjRvBA4A. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Molly Talcott, Faculty Rights Chair, at mtalcott@calfac.org, and/or Marcelle Alvarado, CFA Field Representative, at malvarado@calfac.org. Please note, we will respond as soon as possible as current volume is high.
In union,
Marcelle Alvarado
CFA Sr. Field Representative
