Dear faculty,
I apologize for the delay of this update email; unfortunately, I had not been feeling well as was not able to provide you with an update on Friday (midday) as I had hoped. Faculty Affairs AVP, Elizabeth Heise, has acknowledged our right to access the list of faculty who were targeted/identified as participating in the strike and is working to provide the information of faculty who were identified for participating in the strike.
As a union, we take our member’s rights seriously. Unit 3 Faculty have the right to participate in protected union activity without retaliation or surveillance.
The Union considers the actions taken on behalf of management after the December and January strike days to be outside of regular and current campus policy and procedures. As is our right, we will demand to meet and confer over any new or any changes in policies as they relate to Unit 3 Faculty.
Once we receive the details which informed the email sent on 2/02/2024, we will assess and determine next steps. In the meantime, we are coordinating with other campuses statewide to identify if any grievances and claims that need to be filed. This is including, but not limited to unfair practice charges against the Chancellor’s Office, and gathering evidence to support interference of the union’s right to organize and/or retaliation for participation in protected union activity.
Please note, ratification voting for the Tentative Agreement has opened today, 2/12/2024 and will continue through 2/18 at 5 PM. In order to vote, you must be a CFA member - join today at www.calfac.org/join-cfa.
In union,
Marcelle Alvarado
