We fight to protect our communities and our campus
Dear CFA-LA family,
After scarcely surviving the last six months, Trump’s vanguard finally arrived in Los Angeles last Friday to make “immigration” arrests at garment factories and Home Depots across the county. We don’t know if the kidnappers of LA’s fearless defenders were actual ICE agents or Trump’s masked militia, but we did see them lined up with the police forces of every jurisdiction in Southern California. Just to make it clear: this is a fight between the people of Los Angeles and every fascist force denying our communities’ right to life and draining our budget at our cost!
This Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15th at 10:00 AM, CFA-LA is co-sponsoring a rally in South Central to call an end to the separation of families, an end ICE/national guard/police occupation in LA, for the charges against David Huerta to be dropped, and for accountability over LAPD’s (ongoing) brutality. The rally will be held at Florence and Normandie to highlight the connection to the last time the National Guard was deployed in Los Angeles during the civil uprising in 1992 and to uplift organizing on the ground in South Central.

We at CFA-LA want to also uplift those who have been fierce in their commitments to this struggle. We appreciate the work of the Garment Worker Center, SEIU (Service Employees International Union), CHIRLA (the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles), UTLA (United Teachers Los Angeles), CLUE (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice), the CLEAN Carwash Worker Center, the Pasadena Community Job Center, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), AND MORE, and the political engagement of our most impacted city council districts. To get more engaged, you can get involved with the following organizations:
If you are looking to make donations, we recommend the following:
As we continue our own struggle for a fair contract (and at this point, for CSU Admin to show up to the bargaining table at all), this is an important moment for us to recognize that our struggles are only meaningful as they are connected with the larger whole. And, as the summer progresses and course schedules are shifting, be sure to be in touch with our most amazing Field Representative, Marcelle Alvarado (malvarado@calfac.org), if your classes, class sizes, entitlements or any other working condition are impacted in any way!
We have filed a chapter grievance on the increase of workload, and need your participation, as campus administration is being difficult in providing details on courses where caps have increased and reluctant to work with the us against the cuts. The chapter continues to push the fight against further cuts to instruction - it’s going to take all of us to win.
In solidarity always,
The CFA-LA Executive Board
